The History Of Romney Marsh Romney Marsh is an area that lies in the south East corner of Kent and Sussex. Starting from Dungeness and continuing to Hythe, ending at the Cliffs to the west. The name gives an impression of marshand but Romney Marsh is really dryland with water channels running throughout. The village Romney lies between Hythe and Dungeness and during the Roman Occupation practically all of the surrounding area was still covered by the sea. This area of Kent during the Roman period amounted of Esturaine water with islands, Romney prehaps being an island along with Rye.
